Bethany Biesenthal is a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, a Chambers-rated litigator, and a former federal prosecutor. She has served as lead trial counsel in more than 20 trials and argued over a dozen federal circuit appeals. Bethany has led litigation teams in high-stakes matters involving corporate misconduct, fraud, and investigations brought by attorneys general, and is routinely called upon to try complex cases. Her recent successes include securing a complete acquittal for a client accused of racketeering and fraud, obtaining a jury verdict exceeding $100 million, and winning a complete defense verdict in a whistleblower action.
As a federal prosecutor, Bethany led hundreds of investigations involving financial fraud, national security, health care fraud, securities fraud, and public corruption. Today, clients regularly seek her counsel on corporate and government investigations, including matters involving allegations of government fraud and compliance audits. She previously served as general counsel to the City of Chicago Police Board, where she advised the Board during oversight by a court-appointed monitor.
Bethany currently serves as Jones Day’s lead for global human trafficking-related litigation and counsels clients on corporate supply chain diligence, emerging technologies such as generative AI, and risks related to trafficking and human rights abuses. She has received numerous honors for her legal and public service work, including being named a Law360 2023 MVP and one of Chicago Lawyer’s Top 50 Exceptional Women Lawyers. She also serves on the Seventh Circuit Committee on Pattern Jury Instructions and is active in women’s leadership initiatives.
