District of Columbia
In the District of Columbia, all aspects of the sex trade—whether selling sex, buying sex, promoting it, or profiting from it—are completely illegal. The law treats both buying and selling sex the same, meaning a person can be charged with the same crime whether they're purchasing or providing sexual services. Survivors in DC can vacate convictions related to their trafficking. Survivors in the District of Columbia must prove the underlying offense and subsequent record was “proximately caused by” or “as a direct result of” being trafficked.
